Show House Nets $75,000

The stunning modernist architecture and beautiful gardens of the 2000 Napa Valley Designers Show House drew thousands of visitors during April and May and helped raise over $80,000 for the Foundation. Organizers called it one of the most successful show houses in the Foundation event’s history.

All funds raised will go toward purchase of a new CT scanner for Queen of the Valley Hospital.

Over 600 volunteers, from committee chairs to ticket sellers, from docents to designers, made the Show House possible, pouring energy and enthusiasm into an event that poses all the organizational challenges of a major military campaign.

“The house and grounds were terrific and so were the volunteers,” says Dorothy Arata, who served as general chair for the event. “Despite less-than-ideal weather and parking constraints, we had a great response and many, many wonderful comments.”

Joel and Kathy Tranmer generously opened their home to the Show House team and then the public. Also key to the success of this year’s Show House were co-chair Joyce Spinelli and the over 30 members of the Show House Committee.

Other members of the volunteer team (who inadvertently went unmentioned in our last issue) included Margaret Judah and Debby Collin, who served as treasurers; Karen Morse and Carolyn Tapper, who handled house operations; Judy Andrich, Bobbi Bird, and Dhana Waken on reservations and tickets; Sylvia Venuta, who ran the drawing; Karen Segas, who was in charge of Napa Valley wines; and Leslie Diakon, Martha Hansen, and Don Judah, who took care of signage.

Underwriters helped ensure the Show House’s success. Foundation trustee Janet Trefethen, her husband, John, and Trefethen Vineyards and Winery underwrote and hosted the Show House Preview Gala. Evans Airport Service provided shuttle transportation to the Show House. Napa Valley Party Services provided the tent and furnishings for the Show House’s elegant luncheon café, and Compadres Bar & Grill underwrote the press luncheon and the designers’ and suppliers’ party. Other generous underwriters for the event were Bank of America and KitchenAid.

Special events underwriters included Fry’s Guest Home and Radiology Medical Group of Napa. Bell Products and The Vintage Bank served as major sponsors and Cardinal Distribution as corporate sponsor.

“We want to thank everyone who volunteered, all our donors and underwriters, and the hundreds of people who visited the Show House,” Dorothy says. “They have all shared in our commitment to the health and well-being of the Napa Valley.”
